In an old Scottish poem, Mary Dow Brine says,
How little it cost if you give it a thought,
To make happy some heart each day;
Just one kind word, and a tender smile
As you go on your daily way.
A little word in kindness spoken,
A motion or a tear;
May heal a spirit broken,
And make a friend sincere.
