The Unchangeable God
We live in a world that is constantly changing. How different things are today from the way they were just a short while ago, how different they will be tomorrow!
It is a great satisfaction to know that at the center of all things there is One who never changes. In a world where the substance of all things is ever changing it is good to remember the unchangeable One who is the foundation of all our hopes; who is the strength we need for our changing lives and conditions.
"I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed." The hope of the sons of Jacob is in the constant, unalterable character of God--His unchangeable goodness and love--the unchangeable purposes of His love.
That is also the hope of humanity.
All the purposes of God are purposes of love--love that never changes. If He changed in love, then He might surrender man to the issue of his own sin. If He changed in love, not only the sons of Jacob, but all the sons of men would be consumed in their own sins and iniquities. The inspired writer of the book of Hebrews declared that the sure foundation of the Christian faith was One who could be described as "the same yesterday, today, and forever." And James, in his epistle, speaks of God as "the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness neither shadow of turning."
Would you like to possess this security and strength? You will, if you fix your faith upon the "eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round of circling planets" - the unchangeable God.
"For I the Lord do not change . . . " Malachi 3:6.
